CCNS Playground
Fundraising, Grantwriting, Community Outreach
The Community Co-op Nature School (CCNS) had an aging playground that required two variances to meet state licensing code due to non-compliant features. The first variance was for the tire swing, and the second was for the arch of climbing bars, which were too close to a concrete path. To maintain licensing with the state of Utah, additional safety measures were needed.
I submitted a grant request to the State of Utah's 2022 Compliance Grant Application, which provided funding for infrastructure updates at childcare and preschool facilities. If awarded, the grant would cover a portion of the improvements and play structure replacements, so I began seeking additional fundraising opportunities.
I led a historic fundraising campaign by reaching out to the alumni network, a group that had not been engaged since their children graduated. I also reconnected with the Deisley family, longtime supporters of our school, who had initially funded our scholarship program. The Deisley family generously contributed both to the scholarship program and the new playground.
Through these efforts, we raised a total of $267,000, which included $115,000 from the grant, $50,000 from the Deisley family, and the remainder from past CCNS families going back to the 1960s. It was a truly special moment of community coming together for the children and a beloved school.
I was thrilled to coordinate this initiative, ensuring the new playground will be enjoyed by children for years to come. Below, you can see the postcard design and photos of the improvements.
